178 Mile Challenge (Population 148,677, Area 4,028 sq. miles) The "Big Island" has volcanoes Maunaloa (13,679 feet) and Kilauea, and Maunakea (13,796 feet), the Kau Desert, incredible waterfalls, and the colorful orchids of Hilo. Points of interest include Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, Kealakekua Bay, Kailua-Kona, Kawaihae, Parker Ranch, and Waipio Valley.

130 Mile Challenge (Population 117,644, Area 727 sq. miles) The "Valley Isle" is home to Haleakala, which at 10,023-feet is the largest dormant volcano crater in the world. Lahaina was Hawaii's capital before 1845 and joins Kaanapali and Wailea resort areas as some of the most popular tourist destinations in the state.
